As we've read the D49 audit report shared on their website and watched the recent D49 board meeting, it is clear this report validates once again that our questions, concerns, and calls for action are justified and reasonable. Others are finally noticing it and reporting on it, too, even with the obvious self and D49-serving bias Andy Franko wrote into it. The glaring incompetence of this school board and their many blatant violations as recorded in the audit and through the months of boardwatch activity continue to be cause for concern, especially now that they extend (yet again) their pattern of accountability refusal and retaliation by pursuing court action.
That the Audit Report recommends nullifying the 30-year contract and moving to a 5-year renewal should tell us EVERYTHING that this board is NOT above the law, above their bylaws and policy governance, nor above common sense accountability. This board is UNQUALIFIED to lead. Read the report. See for yourself.
Community, take notice! Watch how this board will spin the narrative. They will blame administration. They will cite COVID as an excuse. They will give a nod to their illegal actions as a necessary move ("We got rid of Leann"), and they will play it off as a lack of training or knowledge.
Most of these people also serve on the Education Foundation board and keep the books. Don't let them tell you, "lessons learned are lessons learned, my bad." THEY ALL HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW BETTER! We have a responsibility to hold them accountable.
It's about time someone with some authority started demanding the Board to achieve something other than the nonsense retaliation and backdoor actions we've come to expect from their gross incompetence and refusal to answer for their misconduct. This audit report is a start, but it will not get the job done.
Every committee and meeting MUST demand that this board and officers play by the rules and stay in their lane.
This school board and its leadership have wasted countless hours, meetings, money, and energy to avenge what they perceive as attacks but are nothing more than concerned community members exercising our right and responsibility to ask for the transparency and integrity required of public officials. This has been a case study in gross inept leadership and wasted opportunity, the only highlight of which has been that we would not have known the depths of their deception, conflicts, and misconduct were it not for the fact they maintained a false pretense of innocence and goodwill while we kept asking questions.
Funny thing is, had they agreed to conversations people were asking for and to follow their by-laws and eligibility policies back in the summer 2021, we may never have seen the documents we have that prompted more and more questions and concerns. Imagine the possibilities of the work they could have accomplished FOR the schools and staff if they had just followed their policies, been transparent, made conflict-free decisions, and kept the focus on what matters most instead of spinning out of control trying to silence and punish people?!
Our hope for the BLRA school community is that this recent abuse of the legal process they initiated against persons who exercise their civic duty to simply ask for accountability from ("elected") public officials will result in decisive and final action against them.
Please post a link to the D49 Audit report and video of Andy Franko's presentation so the community can see and share the glaring rebuke of BLRA School Board of Directors, not a single one of whom is an educator.
We demand better.
